Which is easier for you: to help someone or to ask for help yourself?

Most likely you are more willing to help people than ask for help. It’s easier for us to rush to someone’s rescue than to admit that we ourselves need help.

Unfortunately, our thoughts, feelings and needs are not obvious to others. Few people can independently notice someone’s problems and offer help. For the uninvolved party, it can be difficult to understand that someone needs attention, and one has to make great efforts to understand how to support a person and whether he/she needs help at all.

Sociologists conducted a study, and it turned out that nearly 90% of the help that colleagues provide to each other was a response to a request for help. Most often, after saying the important words “I need help!” you get it.

How to learn asking for help?

The reality of modern life and work is that no one can handle it alone. The vacuum does not allow you to succeed. We have to rely on other people.

To withstand the harsh conditions of nature and the surrounding predators, even animals understand the importance of unity and mutual support. For example, bison form a circle, defending themselves from the attack of predators. Roe deer gather together to swim across the river at its narrowest point.

In times of pandemic, crises, economic collapse, solidarity and support are especially important for people. When restaurants shut down due to the coronavirus, people in many countries continued to work; they delivered food to the needy in hospitals. The doctors worked around the clock, helping the sick. There are more and more examples of mutual assistance around the world every day.

Follow three important rules if you need help:

1. Determine what kind of support you need and why.

2. Turn to someone who has the right knowledge and resources.

3. When support is provided, thank the person and keep in touch with him/her.

Most successful entrepreneurs ask for help. They do this in order to get closer to success. It is better to ask for help in order to be in time and complete the task than to try to cope with all the problems alone.

By showing kindness, offering help and achieving common goals you activate the production of feel-good hormones in the brain. When we help and support others, the brain activates those areas that control pleasure, communication with people and trust.
