The next step was the launch of the X.com online payment system. Joining forces with Confinity startup, Elon founded PayPal, the largest electronic payment system, and earned $165 million. Later, the businessman headed such companies as SpaceX, Tesla and SolarCity, making them giants in the global market.
Elon had his ups and downs: in 2008, the entrepreneur was on the brink of bankruptcy. The situation returned to normal by 2010, when Tesla attracted investors and SpaceX signed a contract worth $1.5 billion.
Today, Elon Musk does not stop dreaming. He plans to start exploring Mars in the shortest time possible. The first step has already been taken: his company has developed and launched into space a new type of launch vehicles capable of returning back to Earth.
